Douglas S. McLeroy, D.Min.

Reverend Doctor McLeroy, Doug, as we all know him, serves First Presbyterian Church with all the enthusiasm of a new minister with his first congregation. At the same time, he leads and nurtures us with the patience and wisdom that only years of experience can bring. And we say, what a winning combination for a church!
Indeed his thirty years of experience as an army chaplain (retired Colonel) provide a wealth of experience he can use to meet every day challenges as our pastor, whether counseling the troubled, comforting the grief stricken, or prodding the complacent. His extensive education in theology and counseling (Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Ministry) and commitment to his Christian faith strengthen his ministry – from the pulpit, Sunday School classroom or living room couch. His positive attitude and the sense of humor that lightens every situation and sermon certainly show he’s glad to be here, calling this small town and church "home." But we suspect these qualities mostly come from his just being Doug. What we as his congregation know for certain is: we are thriving under his particular blend of leadership.
Doug is a native of Atlanta Georgia. He and his wife Dana have three daughters, five grandchildren, and Maggie, their somewhat spoiled golden retriever. Dana is a thoughtful and friendly presence, making tremendous contributions of her own to our church family, especially with music and children. Together, she and Doug enjoy an active life in and outside of the church, traveling, sailing, enjoying family, and entertaining friends in their gracious home.

Pat Harden
Director of Music and Organist
As choir director at First Presbyterian Church, Pat Harden ensures that our worship makes "joyful noise unto the Lord." From our large pipe organ or the beautiful grand piano, her music fills the sanctuary, as accompaniment to her own lovely voice, another soloist, the choir or the congregation.
Pat earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been concert pianist, music director, vocalist and teacher of art, music and the humanities. As a professor at Rockingham Community College and former director of the Rockingham County Community Chorus, she is loved by the community as well as by First Presbyterian Church.
Her wit and enthusiasm rise up from the choir loft occasionally during services, but only choir members know the full extent of her wonderful temperament. Because of Pat, the "joyful noise" during choir practice is often 50% laughter.
Pam Puckett
Church Secretary
Pam Puckett is often the first welcoming face encountered at First Presbyterian Church. And though our office is a very busy place, she never hesitates to break for a smile to a visitor.
She takes the time to listen, share stories or ideas and still gets a weekly bulletin, monthly newsletter, and a multitude of special projects typed – all of this while patiently answering a constant phone!
Pam began her job here in 2003, serving as a church secretary for the first time. She immediately became indispensable to our interim pastor then and later our "new" pastor, Rev. Doug McLeroy. She’s obviously a quick learner. She’s learned to be a "true southerner" after 30 years in Oklahoma and a childhood in Illinois.
We know she misses her two wonderful sons and three precious grandchildren, but are glad she’s made her home with us.
