First Presbyterian Missions
This is how we know love: Jesus laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. But if someone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but refuses to help—how can the love of God dwell in a person like that?

Our Mission Programs

We collect regular special offerings to support local needs and denominational foci. We will also occasionally receive additional offerings when a particular need arises to which we can respond.

Each Spring members and friends plant a garden and tend it throughout the summer, taking the harvested vegetables to the LOT 2540 Mobile Market and Reidsville Soup Kitchen to support those vital missions in Rockingham County.

We partner with three other local churches to host the LOT 2540 Mobile Market in the Circle Drive Neighborhood once a month. First Presbyterian has primary responsibility for it three months of the year, but volunteers are welcome throughout the year.

First Presbyterian hosts lunches at the Reidsville Soup Kitchen throughout the year, especially on Sundays when the Soup Kitchen has historically struggled to find volunteers. All are welcome to help us cook and serve.

The YMCA’s Bright Beginnings program ensures children in need are able to start each school year strong, giving them with not only the school supplies they need, but also a shopping trip to Wal-Mart for new clothes. First Presbyterian not only helps fund this program, but many of our members volunteer.

The opioid epidemic continues to wreak havoc on too many lives. In response, First Presbyterian keeps Narcan/Naloxone, the overdose reversal drug, on hand for anyone who may be in need. Any person may come to the church office and request a supply and it will be given without question or judgement. We also occasionally host community Narcan trainings to empower all people to save lives with the medicine.

First Presbyterian’s Mental Health Committee plans community programming to support the many and ever growing needs of Reidsville and beyond. Through free classes, workshops, and programs, we seek to provide meaningful support to all people, no matter what.

To offer aid to neighbors who need help paying utility bills or rent, purchasing food or medicine, and much more, the pastor has a dedicated fund to be able to quickly meet needs. Funds are limited and available by application only, but no need will be turned away if funds are available.

A group of talented knitters and crocheters gather each week to work on lap robes and shawls that are delivered to church and community members in need, as well as hospice, nursing homes, dialysis centers, and more. During winter months hats, gloves, and scarves are knitted to give away at the Mobile Market and to children in need.

Food insecurity is a problem that affects many in our community, and students are not immune. We help support the food pantry at Reidsville High School with regular donation drives.

National Night Out is a nation wide community building event which takes place the first Tuesday of August each year. First Presbyterian hosts a cook out each year and invites all to come and enjoy free food and fellowship.
