What are elders?

Elders are church members elected by the congregation to, along with the pastor, guide the mission and ministry of the church. Each elder serves a three year term and, besides general leadership as a member of the Session, leads a particular ministry focus area. Any member of First Presbyterian can be elected as an elder so long as they are deemed to be wise, strong in their faith, possess leadership skills, and are compassionate. Nominations for elder may be made to the chair of the Personnel ministry, elections are held sometime between December - January of each year.
